The mystique of foreign places draws Krijn, and he enjoys reading stories that take you to different settings, near and far. If you can’t travel always and everywhere, at least you can always read, about anywhere.
I just loved this book - couldn't put it down. Epic, gorgeous tale of two brother dealing with family tragedy, justice, revenge, aborigiens and bloodshed, and guilt. Set in the late 1800's at the edge of the Australian Outback, where life and the environment are harsh, but so beautifully described in this book. This a a great read.
Beautiful stoty of the American West, set against the backdrop of the glorious Utah landscape. Fascinating portrait of the Wright family - several generations raised cattle, and they are arguably the most successful rodeo family in US history. Great tribute to rodeao culture and the US west.
A great book about trucking? You bet! Finn Murphy dropped out of college and has been driving a long haul truck for over 30 years, and wrote this great, rollicking story about it. He bring to life a seemingly mundane job of a moving truck driver crisscrossing the USA. Very entertaining.
Charming journal in which he describes day-to-day life in a retirement home in Amsterdam. He writes about other people - nice ones, cantankerous ones - about friendships, and support for each other. At times touching, but often funny, as when he writes about the rebellious "Old Bur Not yet Dead Club".
Gripping story about Cass and her loving husband. After she sees a stopped car in an isolated area, with a woman inside, her life starts to unravel. Hard to put down psychological thriller with an intricately woven plot.
Captivating story about the most powerful US spy during the Korean War era. He obtained North Korean plans, first ignored by US Army brass, and was very close to the South Korean president. He set up and oversaw a vast spy network. It is also an account of the massacres, carpet bombings, blunders, and cover-ups - all repeated during the Vietnam war, and it provides an insight to the North Korean attitude towards the USA. A trhilling true story and account of the Korean war.
Great thought proboking book about people and an event set in a country that is considwered to be tolerant. But are they? Over the course of a dinner family and personal values are discussed between two couples, whose sons were involved in a terrible event ? How far would you go to protect your family? Hard to put down till the very end.
As a way to escape his problematic life twenty-something punkrocker and zine publisher Colin decides to eat a 'regular slice' at every place that sells pizza in Manhattan, and post his critiques on his blog. Over a two year period he visits close to 400 pizza joints, and during this time he falls in love, gets sober, and is the subject of news articles all over the world. This is his story for these two years of his life. His passion for pizza is great. He included some of the reviews, including the worst and the best, and they are funny. Though most of the book is about his life, reading it leaves you with a craving for a great slice of regular pizza.
