About Us

The Queen Anne community is one that is fond of their independent bookstore. Very fond. When the previous bookstore closed its doors late October 2012 the outcry was widely heard. And not only from Queen Anne residents but book lovers everywhere. Word of the closure made its way to book industry channels and fellow independent bookstores, authors, and booksellers everywhere also mourned this loss.

The new owner partnership consists of long-time Queen Anne residents Krijn and Judy de Jonge and prior resident returning home Janis Segress. They are all passionate about their community and books and saw a way to help by coming together and providing a new bookstore for Queen Anne…one that has the goal of digging deep roots and thriving for a very long time.

As word began to spread about the plan of starting the Queen Anne Book Company, offers of help began flooding in. Community members came forward with offers to help move books, set up, gardening, spreading the word, and baking.  Authors offered their time to do appearances and book signings during the grand opening weekend. Publisher

representatives donated book copies, signed and framed book posters, and special discounting on orders.  Our Workman representative, Kurtis Lowe went above and beyond

and received books, shelved, and moved furniture. Kurtis was also instrumental in paving the way with Mark Moser of University Bookstore, which was also endorsed later by Random House David Glenn.  Mark donated the 11 bookshelves that are on our floor, plus a desk, a table, a children’s display unit, and a chair. And not only donated but arranged to have packed on 2 trucks, delivered and unpacked.

The support and help continued with Elliott Bay Book Co. and Liberty Bay Books allowing us to borrow stock from them for opening weekend.  Our local book distributor gave us discounting and payment terms, and endless extra hours of ordering and shipping allowances. These extreme acts of support and generosity were instrumental in allowing us to open on March 1, 2013. Over the grand opening weekend our community turned out by the hundreds to show their support of their new independent bookstore. The many flowers, cards, bottles of wine, cookies, hand-shakes, hugs, wonderful conversations all reinforced the positive and welcoming reception we felt from the beginning. And continue to feel each day as we open our front door to you.

Welcome -- our bookstore is your bookstore.
